No one hates bugs as much as Tasha
She's scared of every little beetle, wasp, and gnat
If a fly gives her a buzz (like a fly often does)
She runs away like a scaredy cat.
Her little brother, just by chance,
is quite different
He just loves bugs; he studies them a lot
He knows them all by name
To Him it's like a game to see how many different kinds he can
spot.
One day Tasha was reading in the
yard;
Sitting with her back up against a tree.
When a tickle made her pause
And she looked down and saw
a fuzzy little caterpillar crawling on her knee.
And she said:
"Get it, get it, get it, get it off of me!
Can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you see?
Did you, did you, did you ever see
something so icky?"
Into the grass, the caterpillar
flew...
Tasha took careful aim with her shoe...
Then her little brother saw what she was going to do...
And he said:
"Wait! Don't squash that bug! That's not just any bug!
Someday that caterpillar will be a butterfly."
He said:
"Wait! Don't squash that bug! That's not just any bug!
Just let him go so he can learn to fly off in the sky."
(Fly butterfly, flutter flutter
butterfly)
One weekend every summer
On a camping trip the family went.
While her brother spent his time
Hunting bugs of every kind,
Tasha mostly sat inside the tent.
One night sitting 'round a campfire,
Tasha had a tickly feeling on her arm.
There was a little beetle walking,
she had no time for talking!
Tasha knew the beetle meant her harm.
And she said:
"Get it, get it, get it, get it off of me!
Can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you see?
Did you, did you, did you ever see something so icky?"
She said, "Please Dad won't
you give it a slap?
Quick! Use your hand or your baseball cap!"
Then she asked her little brother
"What are YOU staring at?"
And he said:
"Wait! Don't squash that bug! That's not just any bug!
If you take him in the dark, you'll see he's a firefly."
He said: "Wait! Don't squash
that bug! That's not just any bug!
Just look across the meadow how they're blinking in the sky."
(Fly firefly fire blinking firefly!)
Now Tasha has a very best friend
who is a lot like her in a lot of ways.
When they are both at home
they're talking on the phone
planning things they'll do on Saturday.
One day Tasha and her very best
friend
were sitting by each other on the couch.
Well they were quite surprised
when right before their eyes flew a bee
that somehow got in the house!
They both ran in circles yelling,
running 'round the room like they had twinkle toes!
The bee circled 'round
and with a buzzing sound,
He landed on Tasha's very best friend's nose!
Her friend said:
"Get it, get it, get it, get it off of me!
Can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you, can't you see?
Did you, did you, did you ever see something so icky?"
Tasha's very best friend knocked
the bee to the floor...
But Tasha thought about it a little more.
She remembered all the things her brother said before...
And she said:
"Wait! Don't squash that bug! That's not just any bug!
I think that's what my brother calls a Honey Bee."
She said:
"Wait! Don't squash that bug! That's not just any bug!
My brother says they help all the flowers and the trees.
No I never ever thought I'd be saying
this,
but there's a reason every single bug exists.
Let's take him outside so he can fly away."
(Fly fly away buzzy bee, fly away!)
